We're going to continue to try to accelerate some of our early activities, based on your incredible performance on the vocab pre-test. We've started to work on Unit 1, Composition and Audio, the basic foundation for the course. I hope you enjoyed our first hands-on activity as much as I did! In order to go deeper into composition, and begin the next phase of our work, you'll need to be familiar with our basic equipment. You'll be pairing up to study the camera and tripod that we will use all year, using study guides and videos. Each of you will have to identify the parts that are listed for both the camera and tripod, and physically show me how to use them. Don't worry, it's not a written test. It's a "performance-based" test that is hands-on. Please download the Camera Test and Tripod Quiz below. Pair up with a study partner and see me to get equipment. Please remember your Contract guidelines, and use the equipment safely and professionally.
Before you head out on your first assignment, it's important to demonstrate competency with our equipment. Above, you'll see two files: Camera Quiz and Tripod Parts. Please download and use these as study guides. You will need to test out on this equipment (17/18 on camera and 9/10 on Tripod) to move forward.
Welcome to Digital Film Production 1. Whatever brought you to this class, however you got here, I'm glad you've joined us to learn more about how to tell great stories, create content for mobile, web and screen audiences, and explore the history of filmmaking. I hope you'll enjoy the tips, tricks and techniques you'll pick up along the way that will make you a media expert among your friends.
Please take a couple of minutes to navigate around this page, and the rest of the 121tech site, to get acquainted with some of the tools and resources we will access on a daily basis. Be sure to download the DFP1 Syllabus (on the home page), since it tells you what we'll be up to this semester! Contracts: Rules, Procedures, Policies
This first week is an introduction to Digital Film Production 1 — what we are going to learn and accomplish in this class, the policies, procedures, rules, expectations, proper use of equipment as well as the consequences of improper usage. During the first week we’ll get to know each other, so we can establish a classroom community and work successfully together on film crews as we get further into the semester. We have paperwork and contracts to read and have signed by ourselves and our parents, which must be returned ASAP, in order to be able to use the computers, cameras, tripods and other expensive equipment. Remember, this is your first assignment in the class (worth 10 points) and you cannot use any of the equipment until you have had all three contracts read, signed and returned. We’ll also figure out seating assignments and fill out a brief survey which tells me what you are interested in and what type of experience you’ve had in film up to this point. We'll review the syllabus for this semester, so you’ll know exactly what we’re doing, take care of some technical housekeeping, and we’ll get started with some hands-on learning! |
