Thanks for doing such a great job with last Friday's assignment! During this short little week, we will transition to Rotation #4, with Interviews and Training. Click HERE for your new job.
Step 1: Interview your predecessor and note the Tasks and Responsibilities you must perform (in writing). Step 2: Write up your notes as a news article--Breaking News style---and answer the 5 W's about your story. Submit to me (10 points). Step 3: Hands-on Training; I will observe and quiz you to make sure you're prepared for your new job (5 points). Put your Reporter hat on! You'll be doing research today on famous African-Americans, and we will USE your research in daily announcements this month.
Pick up a copy of the handout from the Substitute. Write your name at the top. You will complete info on 10 famous African Americans by doing research on the internet. Write your answers on the handout; it's due by the end of class today.
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY! Note that you CANNOT have the same answers as anyone else sitting in your row! Here are some GREAT websites to get you started: 100 Famous African Americans of the 20th Century Biographies of Famous African Americans Great African American Biographies Black History Encyclopedia Brittanica's Guide to Black History You have 2 tasks to complete today. Read the directions completely before you begin.
For TODAY's assignment, you MUST choose a News Article that is COMPLETELY out of your usual area of interest---your "Comfort Zone"--and analyze the article. For example, if you usually focus on Sports, THIS TIME, choose Politics or Arts & Entertainment.
YOU MUST GET MY APPROVAL FOR THE ARTICLE BEFORE DOING THE ASSIGNMENT. To complete this Assignment:
Exercise: News Analysis Scan the page of the newspaper you have been given. Choose an article (must be a news item, not opinion column, horoscopes, advice column or ads) that you will use to complete this activity. 1. What is the topic of the article? 2. Who are the key people involved in the story? 3. List 3 key details about the story that are addressed in the article. 4. Who is the author of the article? 5. How could you make this story interesting to your AHAHS audience? Describe two ways you could make this story local and relevant. |
